Richmond Folk Festival + Festival of Cross
So here at Altius we are still working on the whole festival thing. We have been stymied by the city not allowing beer sales. So we realized the next best thing, why make a big festival when there is already one going on. One of the largest folk music festivals in the country is in town the same weekend as our event. It is going on Friday through Sunday with multiple music stages and all sorts of music . So if you were asking yourself, "How can I spin this into a family weekend and not burn wife/husband points?" this is your answer. See the attached link for more information of the folk festival. http://www.richmondfolkfestival.org/

ALTIUS CYCLOCROSS
We are on for October 10 and 11 this year. As in years past we will be at Chimborazo on the 10th and Bryan Park on the 11th. We are also partnering with the VCU cycling team to host collegiate races those days. More to come but wanted to get this out there.
Bryan Park Update
Sorry this has been a bit tardy, trying to ride and it's amazing how that gets in the way of things.
So a quick recap of the past few weeks
Impressive feats/notable items
- Two weeks ago we had a handicap race where the Cat 5s got a 30 second lead on the 4s in the B race and the 3's got the same on the 1/2s in the A. It was unannounced and made for some fun racing. The 5's almost held off the 4s. The 3's wilted like a cheap flower though and were caught pretty quickly. We'll do that again sometime.
- Dan King continues to rock the A race winning two weeks in a row (and 5of 9 total) with a bike throw each time. He now has a nearly insurmountable lead and I don't think I would recognize him without the Tuxedo jersey.
- Mason Haymes showed in the A race that its not the bike, its what you do with it when he was forced to race his cross bike with a 48 front ring. Knowing that he couldn't win the finish he buried himself and took 3 primes essentially winning more than if he won the race. Impressive and smart.
-Jimmy McMillan dug out his road bike, showed up and proceeded to win the A race in his first crit in well over a year.
-The B race is much closer than the A, but CJ Congrove seems to to be settling into the Bozo Jersey. TNP seems to struggle with how to create a strategy to keep him from riding off with one lap to go
- CJ also did an impressive double last week by winning the B and then taking 7th in the A so that may be why TNP can't catch him.
- Emily Helmbolt continues to hold the women's jersey by being the best placed female finisher in the one and only race where we had 3 women.
- Finally I only got the top 3 in the June 21 B race. Thought 568 was 4th but can't find that # on the reg list. 5 and 7 were TNP but you got out of there so fast I couldn't find out who it was and Carytown was 6th. If you fit any of these descriptions let me know. You don't win anything but I want to give series points to those who deserve them.
If I have forgotten anyone else's amazing accomplishments, please feel free to post and my apologies.
Thanks to everyone for coming out. This week, numbers on the right and juniors at 5:30 PM

Bryan Park Update
The B race has a new leader, Joel Miller has taken the prestigious Bozo jersey from Team Natures Path teammate Oliver Dujua (sort of Contador v Armstrongish) so lets see how team dynamics work over the next few weeks. Good job Joel with 3 straight wins though. Here are the standings

The A race shows that Dan King (Van Dessel) can really look at having the Tuxedo jersey custom fitted as he has truly been a model of consistency with 3 wins and no showing less than third. Fantastic job, that's the way to get the most from your summer pass. You can tell your family that it safe to go on vacation at this point

Finally, we introduced a women's point race two weeks ago and hit the bare minimum with three entrants. Emily Helmboldt (RCWR) took the top women's spot. The idea went over so well that ZERO women entered this week. Women's bike race fever, catch it! On the flip side we had twelve 10-14 year olds in the junior race and 6 of them were girls (way fast too) so there is hope for the women's sport. I really do hope to see more women out there in the future.
Until next time

Bryan Park Update
There will be a little hangover this week at Bryan Park as we slip back to our regular races, but thanks to Stratton for putting on another great Workingman's.
A few notes for this week.
1) No kids race, that will resume next week
2) There are folks that want to race the B then the A. This is a training series so I want people to get the experience, but field size and experience of the rider is a must to make this move so from now on if you are in the top 3 in the B series of finish in the top three that night you may ride the A. If not, race harder next week.
3) Honoring a request, there will be a Women's only points jersey (and it's ugly). Here is the catch though. Points are only awarded if there are at least 3 women in the B race. So come on ladies and line up in the B, go toe to toe with guys and gals and we will score out the women separately. The B fields are much larger than any VA womens only race so it will make your racing and bike handling skills that much better, plus you can show up all your friends with your lovely new points jersey.
See you Tuesday

PSA from Altius Cycling
It may be time to re-stan's your mountain bike tires. Just sayin'... keep it in mind. Last 24 hours 3 Altius riders noticed dry-tubeless tires. Must have something to do with the summer solstice.

June 16th Bryan Park
Another fun race, thanks to those who came out.
In the B race Joel Miller and Dominik Meier took off early and rode away from the field. The gap between first and second for the Bozo Jersey is pretty tight and word has it that CJ may miss the next couple of races which could change everything. Dominik, word on the street says that you need to stay in the A race.
B points
CJ Congrove 50
Oliver Dujua 44
Joel Miller 27
Justin Brown 22
Bruce Lowekamp 20
Michael Yengling 17
Jonathan Pham 15
Ethan Lindbloom 15
Dominik Meier 15
Hugh Brown 10
Joseph Obrien-Applegate 9
Brandon Smith 9
Christian Sheridan 8
Andrew Roberts 8
Ed Baumgartner 6
Braden Govani 6
Kieran Mcloughlin 6
In the A race numerous breaks tried to get away only to get pulled back. I raced my first crit in 8 months thanks to Ann Hardy officiating - thanks Ann, and glad I didn't crash anyone. In the end Craig Dodson shot the gap and narrowly beat tuxedo wearing Dan King for the win. Unlike the B race, Dan is coming out hard early. He may have this one sewn up by August.

Embrace technology
Sometimes I am a little slow to figure out the right way to get a message out. I realized that a blog site is just as useful for getting info about the team out as a website and a heck of a lot easier. For the bits of the Altius Cycing Team that are important to the world, we now have the forum.
